On a recent night out I was speaking to one of tranmere’s younger squad members and was curious on what the atmosphere was like under the cuurent form. He mentioned that before every game the squad are always upbeat and confident (which is good to hear), but alot of players have an issue with Shukes. Apparently shukes’ negative attitude is for all to see during training, pre game and post game. It was also discussed that his abilty is not rated by his peers. I wonder if we should be starting him considering the situation we are in if his head isn’t in the right place let alone his abilty. I know Chris gets alot of stick by the fans for his performances and attitude (I recall one incident of flicking the V’s at Borough Road fans!) but I was wondering what everyone else’s views on Chris and whether we should get rid of him a.s.a.p.

Good win last night keep up the work rate

Chris is not as good as he thinks he is, hes had a few nasty injuries and hes not the player he used to be. His attitude stinks and i think a strong manager will kick that into place. His performances have been lacklustre and you can tell on the pitch the way he screams at anyone and everyone around him, whether it be a misplaced pass or just simply not playing the ball to him. Having shay logan behind him keeps him quiet though!!

i think he needs to win back the fans with some decent efforts…not wait until 3 months before his contract is up to impress other clubs. He can be a very good player for us, but does he want it? i dont think so.

He has been very positive recently though…

I think that is harsh. I have no idea what goes on in the dressing room but he has been playing like he means it in recent weeks, for example when he came on as sub gainst Swindon. He had a run of struggling to get in Les Parry’s sides when he first took over but has earned his place in the squad.

I donlt think Shukes is the problem, I have been more disappointed with McLaren, Mahon and Thomas-Moore who have failed to perform to the standard expected from senior pros this season. Is Shukes has a go at other players so be it, for much of this season they have deserved it!

That was my original opinion, I thought he has seemed to try hard and make an effort on the pitch. I know Chris is a scape goat for a lot of fans and some of the criticism of him is harsh, but if the comments about him backroom are correct then we don’t need a player with a chip on his shoulder, thinking he is better than everyone else.

There are other areas of concern at the minuet, as mentioned above, i think that Mclaren and Mahon have been poor as well as the defence (hopefully this is improving after last night).

Shukes has got small man syndrome, he always looks pissed off and is never very appreciative of the fans support. He doesn’t do himself any favours. This season he has looked a bit sharper but gone are the days of his very best form. I think he lost his self belief somewhere in the last couple of years, maybe injuries have played a part as well I’m not sure. He’s a real confidence player and when he’s on it he’s worth having around but when he’s not its horrible to watch

Anyway, i think his contract is up at the end of this year so he’ll probably be off and i won’t be fussed either way
